Dancing in the Street with the Dance Theatre of Harlem – Free Community Event


A fun, active community engagement activity Dancing in the Street, is a 40-45 minute open-air event. Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Resident ChoreographerRobert Garland, delivers a brilliant mashup of ballet and classic social dancing for all ages! Every skill level is invited to participate in the fun and personal expression of an old-style Soul Train line. Starting with a warmup, Dance Theatre of Harlem’s company artists teach the vocabulary and sequence of a section of choreography. Select participants will then perform LIVE with the company!

Dance Theatre of Harlem: Masterclass


Celebrating 50 years of excellence, the renowned Dance Theatre of Harlem will offer a master class for all dance levels from beginner to professional. The master class will include: 

  • A ballet warm up
  • Center work  
  • Across-the-floor movement

The Dance Theatre of Harlem Company tours nationally and internationally, presenting a powerful vision for ballet in the 21st century. The 17-member, multi-ethnic company performs a forward-thinking repertoire that includes treasured classics, neoclassical works by George Balanchine and resident choreographer Robert Garland, as well as innovative contemporary works that use the language of ballet to celebrate African American culture. Through performances, community engagement and arts education, the Company carries forward Dance Theatre of Harlem’s message of empowerment through the arts for all.
