School Resource Officers

The School Resource Officer (SRO) program provides for a safe and secure school environment for all public schools while delivering a variety of benefits. Some of those benefits include providing guidance and mentoring to faculty, parents and others persons associated with school safety operations.

Responsibilities

The School Resource Officers teach an in-house developed curriculum called Students Obtaining Achievement and Responsibility (SOAR) in all public elementary schools. The curriculum includes bullying, bicycle safety, crimes that occur in school, peer pressure, gang awareness, and drug awareness. In addition to SOAR, School Resource Officers also teach the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program and Stranger Danger programs. The SROs are a part of our Youth Services Division which includes the Police Explorer Program and the Police Athletic League. These programs provide after school recreation such as kickball, flag football and soccer.

Miramar Police Department’s commitment to the youth of the community is clearly demonstrated by providing a School Resource Officer in each and every public school within the city.
