Dear Class of 2020: You Deserve a Standing Ovation

Cars honking, streamers streaming, balloons swaying, confetti popping!
The Class of 2020 rolled in to Miramar Regional Park in fine style on a gorgeous South Florida morning.
I didn’t personally know any of the graduating seniors but as they drove by beaming with pride and gratitude, I felt a deep connection to them all.
These seniors from high schools in the City of Miramar got the honor they so deserved on three separate occasions.
During the drive-thru graduation parades, they were greeted with loud cheers by their high school principal, the mayor and elected officials, school staff and city staff. The news cameras were there to capture it all.
Graduates remained in their decked out vehicles. Most were immaculately styled in their cap and gowns, popping their heads through sunroofs and windows taking pictures against a beautiful balloon archway backdrop.
The creativity displayed was nothing short of amazing! Customized banners draping the sides of vehicles, stuffed gators on the hood of cars representing their college of choice, class of 2020 face masks, you name it.
Each senior got to fill their vehicle with as many family members as it could hold. One particular graduate got creative and showed up in a cargo van jam packed with excited loved ones!
My personal favorite, Mr. Cool Guy senior who pulled up on his motorcycle! But also shout out to Mr. Warm and Fuzzy for posing with his grad teddy bear.
An emcee announced the name of each graduate as they approached. Some visibly overcome with emotion, tears flowing. Others approached with such swag and confidence seemingly ready to conquer the world.
These graduates are making history and are now part of this defining moment in time. In the midst of national turmoil and heartbreak, these young adults got a chance to experience a joyful momentous occasion that celebrated their achievements despite the odds.
Congratulations to the graduating class of 2020, especially the graduates from Everglades High School, Somerset High and Miramar High!
