The City of Miramar Commission voted in May to approve a contract that would address city-wide sidewalk replacement, and installation utilizing the Southeast Florida Governmental Purchasing Cooperative Group contract with the City of Miami Gardens awarded to Metro Express.
This project, entitled “Installation of New and Repair/Replacement of Existing Sidewalks”, is part of the City’s Five-Year Capital Improvement Program.
Under Metro Express’ agreement, City Public Works will schedule the repair of sidewalk defects based on the following priority levels:
1. Sidewalk defects at locations which have been reported and logged into the City’s work order system;
2. Sidewalk defects located adjacent to or within the proximity of schools, parks, community centers and other public facilities;
3. Sidewalk defects located on major and collector roadways; and
4. Sidewalk defects located on local neighborhood streets.
Public Works Director, Bernard Buxton-Tetteh commented on the project by saying, “The Streets Maintenance program has increased its efforts at repairing sidewalks throughout the City utilizing in-house staff; however, there still remains a large and growing inventory of damaged sidewalks in need of repairs. The Public Works Department developed Capital Improvement Program Project to utiltize the services of a contractor to perform additional repairs and replacement in order to substantially reduce the inventory of unsafe sidewalk locations. This project will be funded with approved FY17 CIP funds.”
