[ARCHIVED] MIRAMAR DAIRY QUEEN IS BESTOWED COMMISSION RECOGNITION

At the May 17, 2017 Commission meeting, Miramar’s 1st city-based business, Dairy Queen located at 1900 South State Road 7 was recognized with a proclamation establishing Dairy Queen in Miramar Day. In 1953, Robert Nortmann built Dairy Queen as the first building in West Hollywood until it became the jurisdiction of the City of Miramar.  The City of Miramar’s incorporation occurred in 1955, two years after Dairy Queen was built by Nortmann making this possible.  Dairy Queen Miramar received this honor because of their business dedication and contribution in the City.

Nancy Nortmann and Jackie Olympio, daughters of Robert Nortmann, as well as Rick Olympio purchased the franchise from Mr. Nortmann in 2006.  Today, Nancy Nortmann owns it outright, having purchased it in August 2016.  Nancy Nortmann has worked at this Dairy Queen since 1977; part time, through college and now as the sole owner.

Dairy Queen Miramar also boasts a unique Corporate PRIDE AWARD, an acronym standing for Personal Responsibility in Delivering Excellence.  The business was attributed this award for achieving a high level of cleanliness and food safety.

“Dairy Queen Miramar exemplifies the longevity of small business in the city and what’s Right Here In Miramar,™” stated Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam.
