A Resolution of the City Commission on August 3, 2017 authorized the establishment of a Sister Cities program for the Miramar Community.
Sister Cities programs act to facilitate and maintain world peace with cities, their elected officials, and citizens through international collaboration. These relationships exist as educational, economic, cultural, municipal and humanitarian assistance exchange programs of mutual benefit to each community.
Historically, the City of Miramar Commission has had a record of established agreements for these types of relationships. They have produced a Sister City Agreement with Santa Ana, El Salvador and a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation with Belize City, Belize. They also represent instances where international relationships meet common interests.
The City’s recent Commission Resolution supports plans to develop this program with the assistance of an exploration committee and a long-term goal to turn it into a 501 © 3 within its third year. The City’s Community and Economic Development Department will facilitate the program and support Commission initiatives in this right.
