The City of Miramar will be joining cities across the state in celebrating Florida City Government Week from October 23-29, 2017. Because city government is the government closest to most citizens, and the one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents, it is important that residents understand how their city operates, the services it provides, and the importance of their active involvement. The theme My City: I’m Part of It, I’m Proud of It will guide this year’s activities.

“We are excited about Florida City Government Week and hope to engage all residents and guests in our upcoming events,” said City Manager Kathleen Woods-Richardson. “This is an opportunity to help our residents become more informed about the many services we provide, which will lead to more knowledgeable citizen participation in the future.”

Events planned for the week are (list activities, date, time, and locations):
1. Proclamation by Mayor Wayne M. Messam: City Commission Meeting, Wednesday, October 18, 2017
2. State of the City Address: Thursday, October 26, 2017, 6:30PM, Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark
3. Social Media Contest: Do You Know Your City?

Florida City Government Week, sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, is a time to showcase cities and recognize the significant role played by city government in the lives of its citizens. The League is the official organization of the municipal governments in Florida, designed and established to meet and serve the needs of Florida’s cities and their citizens.
