The City of Miramar Commission made it
official at its board meeting on November 27, 2017 that it is excited about the
American Tennis & Education Foundation (“ATEF”) being added to the reasons
why It’s Right Here In Miramar™; when it approved a Comprehensive Agreement and
Agreement for Ground Lease with the ATEF for the proposed ATEF National Tennis Center, Tennis Hall of Fame Museum and a Hotel
in the Miramar Regional Park (16801 Miramar Pkwy, Miramar,
FL 33027).
A Florida Not-for-Profit
Corporation, the ATEF, plans to construct a facility that will include the following key
elements:
Tennis Parcel (+/-8 acres)
- 12 standard 78’-length
tennis courts (6 hard-surface and 6 clay-surface).
- 1 standard hard-surface
stadium court with accommodations for up to 3,000.
- Clubhouse facility
including locker rooms, treatment areas and fitness areas.
- Up to 20,000 square feet
of exhibition space for display of items related to historically significant
people, events and items in the sport of tennis.
- Office not to exceed 5,000
square feet of floor area for use exclusively by the ATEF and the American
Tennis Association (ATA).
Project Scope – Hotel
(+/-4 acres)
- Not more than 125 room
“upper midscale” brand/chain limited service hotel.
The development of this facility comes with
early support from Broward County and its tourism division, the Greater Fort
Lauderdale Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (GFLCVB). Miramar Mayor Wayne M.
Messam commented on the city’s commitment to the legacy project stating that, “The city is super excited
that the American Tennis Association is one step closer to making the City of
Miramar its headquarters.”
