Development Review Committee (DRC)
The Development Review Committee (DRC) serves as the City’s technical body that reviews and evaluates development proposals to ensure compliance with land development regulations, and consistency with comprehensive plan policies and community planning goals. The DRC consists of representatives from various departments/divisions: planning, landscaping, engineering, fire rescue, public works, utilities, and police.
Objectives of the DRC:
- Evaluate Project Proposals: The DRC reviews a variety of development applications to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
- Coordinate Interdepartmental Review: By bringing together experts from various city departments, the DRC ensures all relevant considerations (e.g. traffic, infrastructure, stormwater management, fire safety) are addressed cohesively.
- Provide Feedback to Applicants: The DRC provides clear and comprehensive feedback to applicants (e.g. developers, property owners, architects, and engineers) about their proposals, identifying required changes or compliance issues early in the process.
- Ensure Public Safety and Welfare: The DRC works to ensure that proposed developments do not negatively impact public health, safety and general welfare.
- Streamline the Approval Process: The DRC helps minimize delays by consolidating reviews and reducing the back-and-forth between applicants and the different representatives from various departments/divisions.
- Support Strategic Planning Goals: The DRC ensures that development aligns with the city's comprehensive plan, economic development strategies, and long-term growth objectives.
