Backed by a strong academic foundation and professional experience across public service, real estate, and finance, she brings a well-rounded and solutions-driven approach to leadership, policy development, and community engagement, ensuring meaningful impact throughout the community.

Commissioner Avril Cherasard began her career in public service working with the Florida Department of Health and the Social Security Administration, where she advocated for individuals and ensured they were treated with dignity and respect—values that continue to guide her work today.

She is passionate about ensuring that Miramar continues to grow as a vibrant, financially sound, and forward-thinking city, and remains committed to listening to residents, advocating for their needs, and leading with purpose.

Outside of her official duties, Commissioner Cherasard is a devoted mother and an active community volunteer. She serves with the Kiwanis Club of East Pines Miramar, contributes to the Miramar Affordable Housing Advisory Board, and is a Governor of the Broward-Miami Board of the Miami Association of Realtors.

Commissioner Cherasard came to the United States at 16 on an academic scholarship and earned her bachelor’s degree from Florida Memorial University, graduating summa cum laude, and her Master of Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University.
