Vision

The Land Planning Services Division strives to achieve a well-planned, safe, attractive, and sustainable community that is responsive to the needs of residents, businesses, and the environment. Through effective regulatory planning responsibilities and responsive citizen and business services, the Division promotes orderly growth, protects the public interest, and enhances the community's quality of life.

Regulatory Planning Responsibilities 
  • Administer and implement the City's Comprehensive Plan in accordance with Chapter 163, Florida Statutes
  • Maintain the Future Land Use Map and Official Zoning Map
  • Maintain, update, and interpret the Land Development Code, which is accessible through Gridics
  • Process, review, and evaluate development proposals to ensure compliance with land development regulations and consistency with the Comprehensive Plan, adopted policies, and community planning goals
  • Preside over the Development Review Committee (DRC) and Community Appearance Board (CAB)
  • Provide administrative and technical support to the Planning & Zoning Board (PZB) and the Historic Miramar Advisory Board (HMAB)
  • Conduct special planning studies and research as needed
  • Administer and oversee the City's floodplain management program to promote public safety, reduce flood risks, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Citizen & Business Services
  • Guide residents, business owners, and developers through the development review and permitting process
  • Process, review, and issue zoning permits
  • Process Certificates of Use for new businesses, changes of ownership, and changes to existing businesses
  • Process zoning verification requests
  • Perform zoning inspections
  • Operate and maintain the City's Community Garden
