Miramar Police Department K9 Unit

The Miramar Police Department’s K9 Unit plays a vital role in supporting patrol operations, narcotics detection, and public safety efforts throughout our city. Our highly trained police service dogs and their dedicated handlers work as an inseparable team, assisting with tracking suspects, locating missing persons, detecting illegal substances, and enhancing officer safety in the field.

The Unit is proudly supervised by Sergeant Brent Steffan, whose leadership ensures the team operates at the highest level of professionalism and readiness.

Our K9 Unit currently consists of four certified handlers:

  • Officer Heidy Arias
  • Officer Edel Esponda
  • Officer Xavier Osorio
  • Officer Brandon De Jesus

Each handler undergoes rigorous training to ensure their canine partners are not only effective in the field but also safe and controlled in community interactions. Together, they serve as a vital bridge between law enforcement and the public, often participating in demonstrations, school visits, and community outreach events.

The Miramar Police K9 Unit is a proud example of our commitment to excellence in policing—combining skill, discipline, and compassion to serve and protect our residents.
